James Hayes

Canadian & US IMMIGRATION & CITIZENSHIP LAWYER

James is a Canadian and US immigration lawyer here at BinHimyar Law Group. Outside of work, James can be found reading philosophy, playing guitar, or walking the Vancouver seawall with his spouse.
Before coming to BinHimyar Law Group, James worked for a few years as an immigration lawyer in the United States (US). He built strong client relationships through cultural knowledge, language skills, and passionate representation before immigration authorities. James worked in several areas of immigration law, with a focus on removal defense, asylum, appellate work, and litigation. After relocating to Vancouver, British Columbia, James is excited to bring the same enthusiasm for Canadians and foreign nationals seeking immigrant and non-immigrant visas to the US. James assists clients with visitor, student, family sponsorship, investor, employment, and NAFTA professional visas. He also represents clients seeking waivers of ineligibility, inadmissibility, and misrepresentation.
On the Canadian side, James primarily represents clients seeking refugee protection claims, humanitarian and compassionate applications, procedural fairness responses, immigration appeals,  and judicial reviews. An immigrant himself, James understands the difficulties of navigating a new environment and immigration system. He looks forward to helping you and your family immigrate to Canada.
James carries a natural appreciation of language, culture, art, and diversity everywhere he goes.  He often says that a client is so much more than a file and his work ethic, past success, and lasting client connections confirm that. James has spent time in China and France and has a particular fondness for both cultures. Above all, James appreciates that every client teaches him something new.
James offers legal services in French and can speak some Mandarin Chinese.
